STOCKHOLM —  According to Sweden’s Public Health Agency, youngsters between the ages of 12 and 17 no longer need to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, due to their “extremely low risk”.

The latest recommendation will take effect on October 31. In September, Britain updated its recommendation on vaccines for healthy children under the age of 11.

The Swedish standard is three doses for people over 18, with a fourth dose recommended for all those beyond 65.

The nation gained international attention when it defied pressure to enact harsh measures when other nations went into lockdown.

The number of fatalities in Sweden increased slightly throughout the summer but is already decreasing.

The Nordic nation now has lesser deaths per capita than the average for Europe after having a high death toll during the start of the pandemic.
