Five rescuers died while conducting a rescue operation in San Miguel, Bulacan amid Super Typhoon Karding’s onslaught on Sunday, according to Governor Daniel Fernando on Monday.
“Actually, lima ‘yan. Apat na ngayon ang confirmed dead. Mga team natin sa PDRRMO. Mga empleyado po natin ‘yun (there were five. Four have been confirmed dead. They are from our PDRRMO team. They were our employees),” stated by Gov. Fernando.
PDRRMO officials claimed to have discovered the fifth rescuer’s body.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the five were moved to funeral homes.
According to Fernando, when the truck they were using for their mission broke down, the rescuer used a boat.
The men however were injured by a wall that fell and a flash flood that occurred.
Moreover, Fernando assured that the provincial government would help the bereaved family.
2,000 people are being sheltered in evacuation shelters because several parts of the province are still underwater, according to the governor.
According to the report of Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr., secretary of the interior and local government to Pres. Marcos, 19,368 families, or 74,542 people, were evacuated in eight regions (CAR, Regions 1, 2, 3, 4A, 4B, NCR and Region 5).
Whereas Metro Manila had the greatest number of evacuees—33,043 people. Central Luzon (Region 3) followed with 25,358 and Calabarzon had 13,892 people to be evacuated (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon).
